Press Release: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 Obtaining final QAPP acceptance from the Mass DEP means that students who train with CSCR teachers are adhering to scientific procedures and methodologies that have been thoroughly reviewed and approved by professional scientists drawn from several state agencies. The photos capture students undergoing training, implementing field studies, and enjoying a little camaraderie. The two featured research projects address questions raised by EPA, MassBays, and local town officials in regards to wetland habitat health, and nonpoint source pollution impacts on the health of Cohasset Harbor. One project is also designed to train CSCR students and staff in the fluorometric determination of chlorophyll-a, an important indicator of microscopic plant growth often fueled by excessive nutrient from stormwater runoff contamination. With support from Microsoft students
and project partners such as chemist
Christian Krahforst of the Mass. Bays
National Estuary Program, students at
CSCR are tackling some complicated issues
that affect all cities and towns in our
urban and suburban environments. CSCR Headquarters on Cohasset Harbor In 2003, CSCR was fortunate enough to acquire a harbor-front facilty on Parker Ave in Cohasset that allowed them to expand its research and education capabilities. After major renovations funded by several generous benefactors, the building was opened later that year, and ever since has been providing a headquarters for training, lab studies, and discussion of numerous CSCR projects.
